Northeast
Border Terrier Club

The
NBTC
was
founded in May, 1985, at the Windham County KC show in CT when a small
group of Border Terrier owners and breeders decided it was time to "get
organized". The founders were
sitting at a picnic table enjoying chicken BBQ while discussing the
pros and cons of starting a new club, that may have been an
omen about future gatherings. Throughout the year NBTC functions are
often the scenes of delicious lunches that go far beyond the
usual "pot luck" fare.
Among the founding members were people
who had bred Borders for many years and were very active in the Border
Terrier Club of America. They were unfailingly generous with their
expertise and
time guiding newer members along the way to responsible stewardship
of the breed and we are grateful for their kindness. NBTC members
exhibit a friendly and supportive attitude unsurpassed in the "dog
world". Many of us have found that friendships formed by the
initial interest in Border Terriers have grown to encompass much more.
That May show was & still is the first
outdoor show in the season in NE and draws many Border Terrier owners
who look forward to seeing friends. A BTCA sanctioned Sweepstakes is
held at the show and an NBTC meeting and "pot luck" lunch are held
after the judging
At the request of NBTC the BTCA now supports the
entry of many events,
including conformation shows, earthdog tests, obedience, agility and
rally events throughout the year. The NBTC offers prizes at those
events and some other earthdog events that draw substantial entries of
Borders.
In 1995 the NBTC hosted the independent
BTCA
National Specialty in Stowe, VT, following that by hosting the 1999
National Specialty in Gardner, MA, the 50th Anniversary of the BTCA.
In 2004 the NBTC again hosted the BTCA National Specialty in Gardner,
MA. The NBTC has also hosted various earlier BTCA National Specialties
in
conjunction with regular AKC shows.
Two NBTC Founding Members have been recognized by
the NBTC in a unique way. They were affectionately referred to as "The
Two Kates." The club published booklets containing articles written by
them and about them. Learn more here
