Kate Murphy got her first Border Terrier in 1980. Her
beloved Borders
featured in her stories starting in the Borderline in 1981. A founding
member of the Northeast Border Terrier Club, she was newsletter Editor
for a time. Her ability to make friends, her generosity of spirit and
her love of the breed endeared her to many.
The Catherine
Murphy Memorial Trophy for Best Veteran in the BTCA National Specialty
was donated by the NBTC. It is a figurine of Br. Am. Ch. Workmore
Waggoner, a dog that was owned by Kate Seemann and bred to Kate's
foundation bitch, Ch. Highdyke Tish of Cymri Hill (Tishie).
This
booklet, first published by the NBTC in 2002, includes all the
stories/articles written by Kate for the Borderline and the Border
Times, along with her drawings. It gives some history about Kate and
contains memories and comments by friends who knew her. (52

Kate Seemann was first introduced to Border Terriers in
1947.
The
family farm in Shelburne, VT, (www.shelburnefarms.org)
was ideally suited for an active outdoor
life and her Borders were a part of it. Over the years she
continued to support the breed by importing top dogs from established
breeders in the UK. Avoiding
the spotlight, she preferred to support the breed quietly. Placing pups
in loving homes was her top priority from the start and many a novice
got a good start with her help.
Even after her death monies are being directed into accounts to support
Health and Genetics for the breed and the BTCA Donor Advised Fund
was renamed the Kate
J. Seemann - BTCA Donor Advised Fund in her honor. Thus her longtime
commitment to the breed continues.
This booklet, starting with
the Forward by her daughter, Deenie Galipeau, contains the interview
conducted by
Kate Murphy and first published in the Borderline in 1999. The article,
"Chucks, Ducks and Champions" by Kate S., first published in the 1958
Breed Book is reprinted along with memories by various friends of Kate.
