| Movie Dogs |
| Occasionally a movie is released that features one
or more dogs and we would like you to be aware of certain facts. Dogs you see in movies can be very attractive when seen on the screen. They are usually portrayed as charming, intelligent and often just plain cute. So cute that some people come away saying " I want one of those!" but buying a dog on impulse is not in your best interest nor that of the dog. If you are impressed by a dog you've seen in a movie you need to be aware of a few things. In nearly all cases the dog you saw was actually two or more dogs. No one dog has the talent or temperament to fill a role by itself. The behavior you saw was for the most not spontaneous, the dogs used are well trained and nearly every action is a trick that is rewarded. Potential owners should do careful research, finding out about temperament, grooming, exercise and other characteristics of the breed. Finding a reputable, responsible breeder who is willing to work with you to be sure his breed is right for you should be a priority. Not every breed is right for every situation and good research will help you make the most educated decision. Information Sources The Border Terrier Club of America, Inc., has a booklet, The Border Terrier in Brief, that will give you more information about the breed. The BTCA Ethical Standard. This can be used as a means of evaluating what should be expected of a responsible breeder and what a breeder will expect of an owner. BTCA website, a good source of information about the breed and the national club's activities and resources. |
